Born and raised in southern Ontario, being around hockey my entire life, I have grown to love and respect the game which has took me so many places over the years, and most recently to my neighbouring country the United States playing college hockey. Just Give Er!

World J’s

January 5th, 2010

Well boys, first of all I would like to say Happy New Year to everyone. Hope the break was relaxing, and fun. However it’s that time of the year again, where it’s time to get back to business. With the break ending everyone is retreating back to their respective cities, to start the second half of the grind. Christmas break was a great time to reflect on the first half of the season, but also to relax and regroup to begin that second half push towards winning a ring. As I talked about a couple weeks ago Christmas time is a time for the boys, and let me tell you what a time it was. Ten day benders don’t happen to often but when they do you can count on them being one hell of a Gonger! My break was a good time to be away from the game, and now that I’m back at school, I feel rested and ready to go. This time of year is fun, because it’s just the pucks, the boys, and a couple cold ones. No school work or responsibilities to worry about, just wheeling, dealing, and grinding it out. Another good thing about being back with the boys, especially on a team with both American and Canadian born players, is the World Junior Championships. This tournament is watched with great pride every Christmas, and it’s always one of the most exciting and entertaining hockey tournaments around. With many beaks being thrown around before break, and up to now it’s come down to one final game, USA vs. Canada. This great rivalry will be taking place tonight, and it will not only be a rowdy affair on the ice, but for those who are watching, a rowdy affair off the ice. Being back with the boys is a good time to get closer, and gel, and this game is one thing that will get the boys together to do just that. A few frosty’s, the boys, and the white and red will make for one hell of a time. And yes the WHITE AND RED!!!! So for every team with lads from both ends of North America, cheers, and hope everyone enjoys it as much as I and my teammates will. Keep Given er!

Christmas time is a time for the boys…….

December 10th, 2009

Three months ago was when I last posted for the boys here at Old School Hockey. I’m a little overdue, and I apologize for my lack of dedication to the boys at OSH. I probably should have been put on waivers, but they have graciously let me stay to keep throwing out some stories for the boys whenever I can. My goal for the New Year is to throw a post in about every two weeks. I’ll be working hard to stick with my resolution. When thinking about the holidays, and the month of December, it is coming to the end of the first half of the season. For some guys the first half can be a battle. Struggling with injuries, not finding the net, and just not in that mid season form groove yet can really take a toll on guys mentally and physically. Even though the grind seems endless at this point, there’s no need for any beauty grinding it out to worry. Christmas break is right around the corner and this is a time that all the boys look forward to. This is the best time of year to be a hockey player. As most regular kids are looking forward to spending some quality time with their families, the boys thinking about the giant gonger that awaits them. As all the boys will arrive home within a few days with each other it will only be a matter of time, when about 20 beauties will gather ready to fire it up for a solid night and probably a few more after. Walking into a buddy’s house that you haven’t seen for 5 months brings a lot of joy to the boys for the holidays. These are the times when you can think back to all that hard work you have put in the past months has payed off and you are finally getting a well deserved break. I know this break for me is going to be well needed. After a grueling first half, I’m ready to get home and throw more than just a couple back with a great group of guys. A little eggnog maybe with something extra special will be just the thing that will get the boys going, and just ready to give er for the holidays. So for all the boys out there who are just given er right now, and feel like it’s never-ending don’t worry because right around the corner is probably the biggest GONGER OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!

Mid Season Form

September 16th, 2009

Hey Fellas,

It’s been a few weeks again since my last post just thought I would pop in to see how everyone was doing? Hope everyone is well.  It’s that time of year again where all the boys have begun their junior seasons, pro camps are underway and the boys in college are grinding it out in the class room along with tireless preseason workouts and practices.  This is a good time of the year especially for a college player to get settled into his new surroundings on and off the ice.  It can be tough at times to keep focused in college because there is so much going on.  I hate to admit it but one thing that goes into being a college player is his studies.  You need to put in some time with the books if you want to stay on the ice. It’s a tough transition from playing junior and not going to school for a few years. I have danced a few times with the ineligible mark and just the thought of being a normal student is not fun to think about.  This time of year can also be tough for the boys in college due to the simple fact that you are not in mid season form yet on and off the ice.  Mid season form is a great feeling for the boys when you are flying up and down the ice, dangling everyone in sight, tossing up pizzas like it’s your job (because it is), hitting everything that moves, and you basically feel like a million bucks, like you are untouchable.  However as soon as you get to the net your all Swedish no Finish.  It’s kind of like life off the ice right now for a few of the boys to. You are having a great time, you look good, and feel good but you just can’t close the deal.  Your going home empty handed right now, and that’s fine. You can’t let it keep you down you just have to keep given er and once mid season rolls around you for sure without a doubt you will be sniping g’s, and slaying dragons.  Because when you perform on the ice on a Saturday night, you sure will be performing off the ice as well!  Just Give er!

Hey boys,

Just checking in here, haven’t posted in a few weeks now, and I’m trying to make up for my poor effort .  I really haven’t been given er with this blog and I know I need to step it up a couple notches.  Things have been hectic with the move back to school, and getting settled back in.  A lot of players have probably been experiencing this same feeling of moving away from home, if it’s off to college, junior, or pro it’s that time of year again where everyone is returning to their respective teams and cities to begin another year of sniping g’s and slaying dragon’s! One thing that I really enjoy about this time of year is being reunited with all the returning boys on the squad, hearing some great summer tails, and getting all the kinks out with a few cold ones.  One thing that this time of year brings which I look forward to is meeting all the new boys who you are going to be putting on the same sweater with in just a short time.  Having already started classes all of the rookies and vets have been getting to know eachother here fairly quickly.  It looks like this year is getting off to a good start so far, and I will check back soon and keep everyone posted on the happenings, and developments here.  Keep kickin it old school.

Hey there Hi there

August 7th, 2009

Hey fellas, I finally managed to get this thing working, a battle it was but I made it. First off I just wanted to say that I am looking forward to blogging on a weekly basis for the boys  here at Old School Hockey.  In this blog I will be talking about what goes into playing college hockey, not just the hockey part but everything else that comes with it. From what I have learned in the last two years is that everything else that comes with playing hockey at school makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Good times on the reg with the boys, and lovin it is what it’s all about.  I will have another post up in the next few days, to start off this blog.  Keep givin er and lovin it.
